What is a Jegging, you ask?! Well, it’s what you get when you pair the look of a jean with the stretch and comfort of a legging…..Jeggings are fast becoming one of Fall’s hippest new looks. If you are wondering what is the difference between a skinny jean and a jean legging…….here are the facts: Jean leggings are lighter in weight, 8oz denim v. a Jean’s 12oz. denim. The amount of stretch in a jegging is around 30% and in a jean it may be only 2-5%, that spells comfort! T.M.I., you say…….then you just need to try them on and see for yourself!

STYLING TIP: Best worn with the new 80’s inspired, enhanced shoulder, longer Boyfriend Jacket or a deliciously cozy knit tunic or long cardigan, belted of course……and don’t forget heels or tuck them in to boots/booties for the look of Fall.

Mary Nichols, local handbag designer, has created quite a following from her online site and limited appearances around town. However, now you can actually see and feel her Manhattan Top Handle Bag similar to the bowler bag being carried by Blake Lively. Just make a stop into Rebecca and Drew, close-to-custom clothing store, in River Oaks Shopping Center. They have partnered with Mary to sell this collection up close and personal, in town.


Just to make sure that all of you that love Mary’s bags know about the union, and to intro her to her customers, Rebecca & Drew, owner, Lindsay Aronstein is hosting a trunk show and personal appearance by Mary on Wednesday, August 26 from 5-8 p.m.

If you are unaware of this wonderfully cozy little boutique hidden to the back of River Oaks Shopping Center, you must drop in and learn about this unique wardrobing concept. The offering is quite simple…….button front shirts, tops and shirtdresses that feature the exclusive patented Trio-Fit sizing system, which sizes upper garments by a woman’s bra size, height and body type. How wonderful to find clothes, off the rack, that FIT you perfectly! I found this concept, launched in 2005 in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, to be fascinating. Rebecca and Drew are designers that have a strong appreciation for classically tailored women’s clothing. Their credentials are honorable: Marc Jacobs, Daryl K., Geoffrey Beene and one of my faves, Alice + Olivia, of which Rebecca is a founder. If you’re one of the lucky ones reading this from your vacation home in Aspen, you are what I am calling a really COOL person and you have the temps to prove it! You are also probably one of the fashion elite that will want to trek over to the ultra swank Sky Hotel this week to sip, snap and shop the great collections that Houston-resident/part time Aspen visitor, Melissa Aron and her fashion company, Missa will be bringing to town. First, there is the debut of the Luca Luca Fall collection and in addition will be Paige Gamble’s stunning hand-made statement handbags that feature exotic skins and luscious embellishments. Melissa will also be introducing Vipul Arts jewelry…..a high-end jewelry collection out of Mumbai, India. New to America, featured in Vogue-India, this collection has allready attracted such celeb fashion gals as Beyonce and Victoria Beckham.
Please check out these ultra chic happenings in Aspen and look forward to other similar fashion events that Melissa will be featuring there for you this month, ending with an awe-worthy show at the Jerome Hotel in Late July!

Eco-Chic Happening…….Green Week at Etui

As the Earth Day celebrations go on, a must stop-by is Etui, clothing and accessory boutique on West Alabama, for a Go Green shopping event. Just drop by to support these eco-friendly companies that El Matha and team will be showing in various Trunk Shows throughout the end of the week. Sustainable lines such as Neon Buddha and Pure & Co. will be available Thursday thru Saturday at Etui. If you want to pull in some extra GREEN-backs, and who doesn’t need more of those these days, you can stop by on Thursday evening and bring in your unwanted Gold and Silver jewelry and turn them into cash right before your eyes……now that is recycling you gotta love…..and enjoy some cocktails and light bites while you’re doing it. Did I mention that 10% of Thursday evenings sales will be donated to Discovery Green Conservancy?!
