Some may say that every event in Houston is a fashion event, but within the next two weeks two fab fashion happenings will be occurring in H-town that have become annual events not to be missed. First, is for Recipe for Success. When Gracie Cavnar put her mind to it two years ago and brought together two of Houstonians’ favorite things, fashion and dining, and created the Dress For Dinner trilogy of events, Houstonians loved it and an annual fashion event was born as a way to support RFS, whose goal it is to combat childhood obesity. Prints Charming
Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 by Roz PactorThe caftan, a style that has remained popular for many, has been elevated to chic-ness by Camilla Franks, a designer that awed all of us that saw her show during Fashion Houston last October. The vibrant color, pattern and designs in caftans, leggings, rompers took over the stage making the entire crowd so enthusiastic for her collection. We were all anxious to see it all live at Tootsies at the trunk show the next day but unfortunately, it was only available that day after the show for special order and then was flown away to her next stop. Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 by Roz PactorKnown around the world for her red carpet looks and easy glamour, Alberta Ferretti has been tapped by Macy’s to design their newest capsule collection for summer. In the new exclusive collection, Ferretti has designed pieces inspired by the casual chic of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. “The collection I created is fresh and bright, featuring light summer clothing that evokes the spirit of my beautiful country and is at the same time true to my style,” Ferretti says. The line features 30 pieces within the price range of $49 to $119. The pieces are very feminine, bohemian and delicate featuring lots of chiffon, lace, and gorgeous floral details. A Revisit with Our Town’s David Peck and His NOLA Influences for Spring…
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 by Roz PactorI always like to have a seasonal touch base with David Peck to see what he has chosen for his CROP line each time. So I dropped into Tootsies where he was showing his complete line to take a look. For Spring/Summer 2012, his collection titled “Crescent Rising” reflects on a near-by city that is a favorite to visit for so many of us, New Orleans, the Crescent City. His artistic collaboration is with a photographer that is also a familiar face to many of us in Houston, Daniel Ortiz, a native of NOLA. From Daniel’s photos of this rich, colorful city, David has taken and created unique, one-of-a-kind prints such as the bold plumes of birds that decorate Commander’s Palace into a special wallpaper print. Also, the Spanish Moss from the great trees of Audubon Park, the vibrant colors of Mardi Gras and one of my favorite prints…inspired by the inside of a Zapp’s Potato Chip bag done in a bright citrus yellow and grey print.(shown on rack & below) Read the rest of this entry »

Modern Fashion Footwear with a Vintage Inspiration
Thursday, March 15th, 2012 by Roz PactorWhen I stopped by Tootsies on my way home for a quick look at a shoe collection that I had heard some good things about, I was immediately taken with the designer, her energy and her great sense of style. Bettye Muller and I immediately clicked when I consistently gravitated to her personal favorites. I loved that she had done a “smoking shoe” for Fall, a loafer-like flat with a gold toe that had that androgynous look of the perfect compliment to the menswear smoking jacket. Another eye-catcher for me was a dress sandal in black with navy polka dots, so understated and so tastefully done. This newest color combo for Fall has been totally embraced by many designers and myself as well! I actually found myself getting excited by the shoes and the designer was such a vivacious personality chocked full of fashion knowledge that I could have stayed and chatted forever. Sachin + Babi’s Fashion Week Debut Unveils Their New Look
Friday, February 24th, 2012 by Roz PactorI personally met Sachin + Babi, this beautiful couple, when I co-chaired my final Recipe for Success, Dress For Dinner event at Tootsies last May, and they were our special guests showcasing their then distinctive Fall 2011 collection. I looked, I liked, I purchased from their trunk show. I learned about the two of them then by fortunately getting to chat and try on their clothes. I learned that their families had made beautiful hand-embellished fabrics for couture in their native India and their goal was to take that concept and level of design and texture down a notch to the Contemporary price line for stores such as Tootsies and Neiman Marcus.
