2012 in Fashion…..What Trends Will Endure?

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 by Roz Pactor

Another good year has come and gone in the world of Fashion and if you’re like me, this time of year, I just get hooked on reflecting back on so many things……movies, books, stars that have emerged, those we have lost and big news stories.  Well, Fashion has had all of that and I’ve  searched the web, coming up with my own favorites of the year both in Trends and Big Stories that we have all taken notice of in 2012.  The mystery remains as to what will linger on into 2013!  Having seen several of the Spring Collections, there will be encore appearances for  many  of last year’s biggest looks, just done with a new twist, of course, to keep us all interested……….looking back is fun, but looking forward is exciting! The Ultimate Gift Guide from Two Unlikely Partners…

Thursday, November 29th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

For the first time in my retail history, a collaboration is taking place that appears on the surface to be very unpredictable, but says a lot about the current American shopping style.  We women are smarter about our shopping and feel it to be very o.k. to dress “High-Low” as the industry calls the now-happening way of dressing….mixing designer pieces with less expensive touches or for some, vice versa. Contemporary Career Styling is the Secret to Black Halo Dresses, as Conceived by Laurel Berman

Laurel Berman, Chief Creative Director for Black Halo Dresses, did not start out to be in the fashion business.  She studied political science, among other degrees, desiring to make her dad happy and learn business, which btw has helped her now in running her business.  However, she soon realized that she wanted to be creative and move on to the fashion world and landed in San Francisco where she first studied fashion and then worked with such denim houses as True Religion and J. Brand and then had a great job at a company that was doing private label for Target.  It was there that she and a friend had the idea to start their own collection and with nudging by her friends and hubby, she began in 2002 with just herself and a pattern maker/sewer.  Ten years have flown by, she now has 30 workers and Black Halo has become a contemporary dress brand that is seen all over the red carpet and in most high-end boutiques and department stores around the country. Denim’s Hottest Hues for Spring

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

This may not be the newest idea on the block, it’s actually been brewing for a few months, but as a former retailer that’s team has tried selling colored denim many times, I must say I had to wait a minute or two to really see if people were going to wear it.  Well, I waited and I’ve seen it come into play and have become a believer.  Colored Bottoms, especially denim, is truly a major trend for Spring that will make it and is in fact, one of the MUST HAVES of the season! Michelle O. Made Him a Fashion Star, Target Will Make Jason Wu a Household Name…

Friday, February 3rd, 2012 by Roz Pactor

For many, I’m sure you first heard of Jason Wu as the young creative force behind Michelle Obama’s stunning white, one-shoulder evening gown for the 2008 inauguration galas.  A huge shot in the arm, publicity-wise, for this up and coming young designer who was equally in awe to see his gown that he had submitted, on national TV.  Well, as she has with many young designers, this wearing by the First Lady, was the greatest career boost that any newcomer to the business could hope for. Jason Wu has been no exception in that flock of fashion design stars, whose business has continued to grow following her support. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m speaking with pride at the fact, that whatever the cause or need, the fashion industry is one of the first to be on it!  It certainly helps that it has become very chic to Go Green as many Celebrities, Designers have proven as they have become synonymous with sustainable ideas. So it should be no surprise that there is an organization, which debuted in NYC with a fashion runway show at Rockefeller Center on March 29, 2011. This endeavor is being called appropriately Runway to Green, that’s purpose is to bring together the fashion industry and top environmental organizations. Read the rest of this entry »
