So Long Pants, Dresses are Back for the Summer

Thursday, May 9th, 2013 by Roz

By: Julie Bortnick, of the fashion and lifestyle blog from prosecco to plaid

One of my absolute favorite things about summer is the endless days in a row of wearing dresses. It might be fairly warm almost year round in Houston, but this wardrobe staple doesn’t kick in to high gear until right about now. Gone are the days of pants because it’s time to move your fabulous frocks to the front of your closet and enjoy these hot days in style. Read the rest of this entry »

Donna Karan’s Houston Ambassadors Join with Saks and DK to present Resort 2013 Collection to Invitation-only audience luncheon….Style is on the Menu!

Black assymetical slit-neck Jersey gown

Houston was very fortunate to be part of a nationwide search that Donna Karan’s team conducted, looking for women that gave much back to their community and also possess an added bonus of a great sense of style.  Houston is lucky to have not just one special lady in this style-exclusive group, but two:  Sheridan Williams and Dancie Ware.  On Wednesday, November 28, several women were treated to view a special invite-only showing, by these Ambassadors, of Donna’s newest Resort 2013 collectionSaks, General Manager, Terry Zmyslo teamed up with DK’s Director of Retail Stylists, Curtis Farnham and a small collection of models to treat us all to a first-hand look at her newest collection. The added touch of good will, was that Saks, not only brought much of the collection to Hotel ZaZa to peruse but any of this collection purchased over the 3-day Houston stay benefited our very own MD Anderson…..so it was a win-win for all and such a fun way to leisurely sip on sparkle and have a delightful lunch with friends.

Red one shoulder layered dress

About the Collection: To those of us that are long-time followers, it was all “so Donna”.  A color palate built on solids, prints from Donna are virtually non-existent.  Fabrics were familiar…essential matte jersey, soft knits with some crinkle fabrications.  Styling reflected many of her signature looks….always playing on her strength, with emphasis on shoulders and décolletage, Donna can fit a woman’s body like no other.  The end result is high-styled sexiness that is fit to perfection to flatter the woman.  Signature looks such as lots of rusching, cold shoulder, asymmetrical necklines were all present in this very-Donna collection.  The color palette was made of black, slate and as always in her collections, pops of bold Red.  One of my favorites that I still own in my DK archives is her touches of the color, Blush….this time done in an all over rusched day dress worn by popular Houston model, Yuan Yuan and featured above…..to me the color blush is synonymous with Donna Karan.

The Stylistas in the crowd were too many to mention:  (some are shown below) but it can be assured that many, including myself were shopping for that perfect item after the show, although all sales for the weekend went toward the MDA fund.  Let’s hope that this fun, fashion event brought in lots of money for MD Anderson and returns the Donna Karan team  to NYC with much enthusiasm exhibited by this chic Houston group, brought together by Sheridan and Dancie!  Thank you ladies. A Toast to Fall Shoe Trends at Saks Salon Happy Hour…

As a fashion blogger, I was treated to a private one-on-one tour with Saks Galleria Shoe Manager, Ted Davis and a little bubbly, as he filled me in on all of the best that Saks will have to offer this Fall, and the selection was divine.  Going into it knowing what the shoe trend call-outs were for the season, I must say they had them all and from most of the best names in the designer business.  I was there to pick my favorites and to share this preview with my readers. However, I must say, narrowing them down was a challenge and the season is just beginning?! Read the rest of this entry »

To BB or Not to BB…That is the Question

When it comes to summertime beauty everyone knows that less is more.  After all, why spend all that extra time slathering on countless products when there is a pool and margarita calling your name?  But how do you decide which product to give up?  Is it the primer or foundation?  SPF or moisturizer?  Fear not, for now you can get all of these beauty benefits in only one essential product.  Behold…the BB Cream, a one-step wonder that delivers multiple benefits faster than you can say “cabana boy!”

BB Cream (short for “Beauty/Blemish Balm”) is the hottest new item to hit makeup counters in the US.  A hybrid of skincare and makeup, they’ve been a secret of women in Asia for years.  About 10 years ago, they learned how to condense their beauty routine without sacrificing any of the benefits.  I was overwhelmed last year during my trip to Hong Kong by the number of BB Creams in their market.  Whether I went to a small corner store (like our CVS) or a major shopping mall, BB Creams were abundant and everyone had a favorite.  Thankfully, US companies have caught on to the trend and are eager to offer their own version to American women. Need a Lift? La Prairie Can Give You One…in an Instant

As we approach the aging process, we come to a point when we look in the mirror and see that gravity has taken a toll on our skin.  It almost seems to happen overnight, doesn’t it?  You wake up one morning, stumble into the bathroom, turn on the light, and then do a double-take into the looking glass.  Who is this person?  She looks like me –only tired and 10 years older.  Lucky for us, there is now an answer for those mornings. Thursday, March 15th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

The day before I was leaving for NY Fashion Week, I took a few minutes out of that wild day to meet and chat with Jan-Patrick Schmitz, CEO of Mont Blanc, North America.  He was in town for events for the next two days that would be kicking off a joint effort between Mont Blanc, founded in 1906, owned by the Swiss-based Richemont Group and known as the premier creator of luxury writing instruments in the world, and our own very special Texas Children’s Cancer Center. Live blog from Saks’ Fashion’s Night Out…9/8/11

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

Hi everyone, Fashion’s Night Out may have come and gone but there was a lot to chat about and for you to read about as I quizzed many of Houston’s most stylish gals and guys on just what they were looking for from Fall Fashion, 2011.  I blogged as we talked, live (well, sort of a little internet glitch kept it from you,  but I got great info just the same), and most had a lot to say….some very definite opinions on just what they wanted and in some cases who they wanted it from.

One thing was for sure…..everyone was raving about and purchasing from  the new Miu Miu Handbag Shop that was launching that night in Designer Handbags on the First Level.

So read on, please, and listen to what all the fun and excitement of the evening was about, as I chatted about fashion live at Saks Fifth Avenue for Fashion’s Night Out, 2011….. Read the rest of this entry »
