Unique Contemporary Talent, Trish Wescoat Pound, Founder of Haute Hippie, Visits Neiman Marcus…Such Fun!

Recently, I had a great time visiting with Trish Wescoat Pound, on Neiman Marcus Galleria’s 3rd Floor with founder and creative director of one of the coolest and fastest growing collections in Contemporary Designer….Haute Hippie, the perfect name for this one-of-a-kind contemporary look that she has created.

Trish, looks every bit the part of the “Hip/Ro-Bo” (Rock Bohemian) customer that she designs for.  She’s definitely a little bit country and a little bit rock ‘n roll, originally from Oklahoma, where her earliest dreams were to become a country music singer. She was, in fact, staying over and  heading to the Rodeo that night with her daughter, Jillian, to see Blake Shelton whose wife Miranda Lambert is a big Haute Hippie wearer.  Although her focus is there, her reach with this line is far beyond a limited demographic, as I for one can prove, as someone that has bought from this collection and we won’t mention how far away I may be from her target audience?!  Shhhh!

She also comes to this point in her life, more than paying her dues from collecting tons of experience as a 20-year veteran of the merchandising/designer world. She has designed for and led many important sportswear companies before taking the leap on her own…several of note are: Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Theory and lastly, President of all Contemporary product at Liz Claiborne, which included Juicy Couture, Laundry and others.  She calls herself a “100% gal,” meaning she does not go into anything she tackles without living and breathing it with all of her existence…her energy is boundless and contagious to all around. She also knows it all, from the creative to the business end which made for a great visit with me, as we played, “Retail Geography”, you know the one….”do you know___?” Read the rest of this entry »

Spring Trend….Stripes Galore

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

STRIPES:  Walking the line is the way to go this Spring.  Stripes, which are not necessarily the newest idea around, do make perfect sense as an extension of color blocking.  They have also been the pattern of choice for those of us that are not enamored with wearing bold prints and find stripes to be a great fashion choice for the season.  Thick, skinny, vertical, horizontal or a combination of all of the above, STRIPES, particularly in a color favorite of the season, Black & White, are a bold entry into Spring.

There are such variations to consider as there has never been such a selection as there was this season, on all of the runways.  Many fashion folks have been quoted as saying the combination of Bold Stripes with Black & White are the #1 trend from the Spring runways. Designer favorite of this look was Marc Jacobs where it was dominant, however many designers featured striping within their collections.

Choices:  Vertical: always slimming to the body; long lines elongate the figure and follow the vertical curves of the body.

Horizontal:  often shied away from by many as thought of to make the body appear wide, actually if used as a single bold wide stripe or strategically placed wide stripes can actually be slimming. Read the rest of this entry »

White On…Fashion’s Hautest Spring Runway Color, The Perfect Non-Color!

Friday, April 20th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

In a season that has been a-buzz with Bold Color and Soft Pastels, the time has arrived to step out in the color that dominated the runways back in September…the number one non-color, color for Spring/Summer 2012 that ruled the runways was WHITE. Shown newest, White-on-White.  You could also never go wrong wearing it as Black & White or as the crisp neutral against a pop of color! Read the rest of this entry »

Holiday Whites…the Many Shades of Snow, a Chic Trend for Holiday/Resort Dressing

So you may ask if I have my seasons mixed up? On a day when Texas weather is feeling a little more like summer, do I dare talk about the color of snow?!  Well, I’ve always been a fan of White and now that the “never wear white after Labor Day” taboo has been lifted, it must be noted that one of the hottest (no pun intended) ideas from the Holiday/Resort Runways, arriving in stores now, was the presence of White as the non-color, color choice as a chic approach to holiday dressing. In fact, my memory takes me back to a visit here by Michael Kors (one of my faves, whose chic style is always so apparent) and when he dressed to accompany me to interviews, wore white pants and a black cashmere turtleneck sweater, in late October, specifically to make this point.  It was a few years ago, he was ahead of his time and in fact, his outfit was a point of discussion with all of his interviewers!!! Leather Dressing: Fall’s First Choice is OK Any Time of the Year

Friday, October 14th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

As soon as the Houston air has that hint of coolness and fragrance of fall, those of us who love fashion are ready to make that first step into the new season. For me, the look du jour that bids summer farewell and ushers in fall is the “touch of leather” dressing.

Leather is no longer the industrial-weight outerwear material that we wore primarily as jackets for so many years. It’s lighter to the touch, so that it is not only adaptable for jackets but can be found in a variety of skirts, dresses, vests, pants and shorts.

While the top color will always be black, this season you will also see bold shades, especially in dresses, as they are the newest and most stylish way to go with leather. Read the rest of this entry »

Not Your Basic Cover(up)s

Dolce & Gabbana iPad Cases

Dolce & Gabbana iPad Cases

So Father’s Day is behind us and we ladies have all taken care of the Dad in our life and in many cases, I’m sure he received something techie for his big day. Wouldn’t be a surprise if many Dads got iPads, Kindles, Nooks and/or the appropriate cover to accompany it.  While the men may have settled on the basics….black or brown leather or maybe a step-up to alligator, we techie women have our iPads too but, as usual, our cover(up)s are all about fashion. The reason is simple…every designer is on to this and is making the cover, the hautest new accessory of the moment.  They are available at every price range, color and pattern.  Each designer has come up with clever ways for women to look terribly stylish, chic or whimsical…whoever you are, whatever your style, they have a choice for you. Wrist-action, It’s Color Time!

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

Gone are the days when watches were just for telling time…after all we now have our iPhones, Blackberrys, tablets…many much hipper and more stylish choices, to tell us  exactly what time it is.  It was precisely for that reason, that the watch business had it’s own recession a few years back. The cool people, were not wearing watches and if they did they were not those same metal or leather strap watches that their parents had worn.  The shout out to the watch designers of the world was simple that Fashion  was needed in watches.  They responded, and a new fashion accessory was born out of function!

First, faces got larger and more interesting, shapes, though mostly round were not limited. There were rectangles, squares and even triangles popping up. Metal overtook leather straps and  color in metals became an option, as did other materials such as rubber, ceramics, resin, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
