It is not unusual to see soft pale colorations in fashion as we enter the Pre-Easter time. However, in seasons past that has been for a short window of time as Texas women have proven over the years that they love color and they love it the bolder the better. So, as I watched the runways unfold for Spring 2013, I watched as many of the biggest designers showed pales……from the softest nudes, blushes and soft pinks to icy blues, mint green, lilac, butter yellow and more, and sat thinking, how would Houston women react to these colors??? Spring Trend….Stripes Galore
Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 by Roz PactorSTRIPES: Walking the line is the way to go this Spring. Stripes, which are not necessarily the newest idea around, do make perfect sense as an extension of color blocking. They have also been the pattern of choice for those of us that are not enamored with wearing bold prints and find stripes to be a great fashion choice for the season. Thick, skinny, vertical, horizontal or a combination of all of the above, STRIPES, particularly in a color favorite of the season, Black & White, are a bold entry into Spring.
There are such variations to consider as there has never been such a selection as there was this season, on all of the runways. Many fashion folks have been quoted as saying the combination of Bold Stripes with Black & White are the #1 trend from the Spring runways. Designer favorite of this look was Marc Jacobs where it was dominant, however many designers featured striping within their collections.
Choices: Vertical: always slimming to the body; long lines elongate the figure and follow the vertical curves of the body.
Horizontal: often shied away from by many as thought of to make the body appear wide, actually if used as a single bold wide stripe or strategically placed wide stripes can actually be slimming. Read the rest of this entry »

The Ultimate Gift Guide from Two Unlikely Partners…
Thursday, November 29th, 2012 by Roz PactorFor the first time in my retail history, a collaboration is taking place that appears on the surface to be very unpredictable, but says a lot about the current American shopping style. We women are smarter about our shopping and feel it to be very o.k. to dress “High-Low” as the industry calls the now-happening way of dressing….mixing designer pieces with less expensive touches or for some, vice versa. Tuxedo Dressing….Positive/Negative is One of Many Variations for This Haute Holiday Dressing Trend
Friday, December 9th, 2011 by Roz PactorThe return to prominence of Tuxedo Dressing has been one of those Fall Trends, while popular all season, is very much a NOW look whose time it is to shine. There is nothing with greater style for Holiday parties or New Year’s Eve dressing than to borrow from the boys, the tuxedo with a feminine twist. One of the newest approaches to the look for this season has been the dominance of White as an alternative to the traditional black tux that I have loved for so many seasons. Rachel Zoe, stylist and designer of the Stars has done the same tuxedo (shown above) in both colors. The white has literally been a sell-out, as reported to me by an L.A. shopper and by Tootsies Buyer, Jennifer Cunningham. Read the rest of this entry »

Fall Trend Alert: Spot On!
Thursday, September 15th, 2011 by Roz PactorEvery season I pick a great dress or look that is my favorite and post it to my desktop for aspiration! For me this season, very early on when I saw it on the red carpet, moments after the runway shows had ended and being worn by Kate Winslet, I thought “this is the one.” Sexy but respectable, it was Dots like I had not seen them done before and research led me to a modernization of polka dots fresh from the fall runway of Stella McCartney. I love LBD’s and anyone that knows me knows I own a lot of them, but what made this so special was the one-sleeve/one-side of black dots embroidered on to nude sheer……stunning new treatment, I thought! A must have for me, if only in my dreams. Read the rest of this entry »

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 by Roz Pactor
St. John Knits, which has been expanding to widen its customer appeal in its clothing has been making many progressive steps to move its brand forward, not least of which is announcing today Ralph Toledano as newly appointed CEO. Fashion veteran, Toledano announced the company’s many expansions of their website, social media and significantly, has taken another step to extend its brand…the development of a stand-alone costume jewelry collection, St. John’s Jewelry, which is debuting as we speak for Fall 2011, and a Handbag collection coming for Fall 2012.
They have produced pieces for the label’s runway shows and ad campaigns in the past. However, this is the first time the company is approaching jewelry as a separate division that will be sold to its retail partners. Read the rest of this entry »

Not Your Basic Cover(up)s
Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 by Roz PactorSo Father’s Day is behind us and we ladies have all taken care of the Dad in our life and in many cases, I’m sure he received something techie for his big day. Wouldn’t be a surprise if many Dads got iPads, Kindles, Nooks and/or the appropriate cover to accompany it. While the men may have settled on the basics….black or brown leather or maybe a step-up to alligator, we techie women have our iPads too but, as usual, our cover(up)s are all about fashion. The reason is simple…every designer is on to this and is making the cover, the hautest new accessory of the moment. They are available at every price range, color and pattern. Each designer has come up with clever ways for women to look terribly stylish, chic or whimsical…whoever you are, whatever your style, they have a choice for you. Read the rest of this entry »

Runway to Green
Thursday, April 21st, 2011 by Roz Pactor
I’m speaking with pride at the fact, that whatever the cause or need, the fashion industry is one of the first to be on it! It certainly helps that it has become very chic to Go Green as many Celebrities, Designers have proven as they have become synonymous with sustainable ideas. So it should be no surprise that there is an organization, which debuted in NYC with a fashion runway show at Rockefeller Center on March 29, 2011. This endeavor is being called appropriately Runway to Green, that’s purpose is to bring together the fashion industry and top environmental organizations. Read the rest of this entry »
