Prints Charming

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

The caftan, a style that has remained popular for many, has been elevated to chic-ness by Camilla Franks, a designer that awed all of us that saw her show during Fashion Houston last October.  The vibrant color, pattern and designs in caftans, leggings, rompers took over the stage  making the entire crowd so enthusiastic for her collection.  We were all anxious to see it all live at Tootsies at the trunk show the next day but unfortunately, it was only available that day after the show for special order and then was flown away to her next stop. The Talented Mr. Hannant Takes Us On a Trip to London Town!

Friday, February 24th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

Although I had heard of Douglas Hannant, I really became more knowledgeable and admirable of his work when I saw his show and met him briefly at Fashion Houston in October of 2011.  His show was my last for NY Fashion Week and was held in a small intimate space in the Lincoln Center Library where his décor was all warm and cozy and his audience appeared filled with many long-term clients that sat in great anticipation of viewing the collection. Robert Rodriquez Treats All To His Best of Both Seasons!

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 by Roz Pactor

My final Fashion Houston interview was with a personal favorite of mine, Robert Rodriquez, who I feel that I have watched grow from his earliest days in his tiny booth at Coterie, the huge International NYC Contemporary Designer Show, immediately following Fashion Week.  He is now in most upscale stores and boutiques around the globe, including Neiman’s, Saks, and Tootsies, locally, as well as Bergdorf’s, Fred Segal, Harrod’s and Holt Renfrew to name a few. Barbara Tfank: Liz Taylor was Her Inspiration for Spring 2012, Delivered to Perfection!

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

Dress designer, Barbara Tfank, recent guest designer at Fashion Houston, had a clear point of view when she paraded her stylish, couture-inspired collection down the runways of the recent Fashion Houston shows.  As a designer who was intrigued and often inspired by other great designers, artists and movies, dedicated her Spring 2012 collection to a fresh and modern interpretation of film icon, Elizabeth Taylor, a personal favorite of hers not only for her beauty but also for her generosity and strength.  She left no stone unturned in her designs, her model choices (all Liz-look a-likes), even down to the brunette wigs that all of the girls wore, coifed ala Liz and the exquisite Bulgari serpenti watch, an exact replica of the one given to Ms. Taylor by Richard Burton while filming Cleopatra.  It was a strongly themed collection that drew attention to the early Liz Taylor with garments fitted to that hour-glass figure that was her trademark.  I was so impressed with the quality of her design and beautiful use of fabrics that a follow-up chat with her at Neiman Marcus was a must for me, to learn more about this designer that I had knowledge of sparingly and wanted to learn about and see more of.

Live blog from Saks’ Fashion’s Night Out…9/8/11

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

Hi everyone, Fashion’s Night Out may have come and gone but there was a lot to chat about and for you to read about as I quizzed many of Houston’s most stylish gals and guys on just what they were looking for from Fall Fashion, 2011.  I blogged as we talked, live (well, sort of a little internet glitch kept it from you,  but I got great info just the same), and most had a lot to say….some very definite opinions on just what they wanted and in some cases who they wanted it from.

One thing was for sure…..everyone was raving about and purchasing from  the new Miu Miu Handbag Shop that was launching that night in Designer Handbags on the First Level.

So read on, please, and listen to what all the fun and excitement of the evening was about, as I chatted about fashion live at Saks Fifth Avenue for Fashion’s Night Out, 2011….. Read the rest of this entry »
