Elaine Turner Launches Newest Summer Collection, Seychelles, Tonight with The Chic Sheet

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

How lucky are we that TODAY we get to see online and TONIGHT live in her Rice Village Store on University Blvd., Elaine’s  newest collection for Summer 2013 destination: Seychelles and it is so exciting.

Elaine’s inspiration comes from her visit to this breathtaking island located in Africa in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar and Kenya.  Known for its beauty and romanticism, these ideas dominate the collection.  Summer is all about escaping to the beach, which by the way is a favorite pastime of Elaine’s and Seychelles boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

Some of the quotes from Elaine were, “After the intensity of color and experience traveling through Africa, I wanted to end on an airy, ethereal note…” Two of my favorite takeaways from seeing this broad collection is her use of color and shapes that were modern but romantic.  I also loved the way she combined the unpredictable in both colors and materials.  Python, an always staple at Elaine Turner was lightened up here with hints of colors such as pink and mint.  To add even more interest to this treatment, materials such as raffia and the emergence of cork add newness and originality to many of the pieces.  You must take a look, because you are definitely in for a treat.

The following are some of the highlights of the collection….come tonight and see many more. Read the rest of this entry »

Have Fun with Mother’s Day Shopping

Monday, May 6th, 2013 by Roz

By: Julie Bortnick, of the fashion and lifestyle blog from prosecco to plaid

Mother’s Day is upon us, and the inevitable question of what to get mom surrounds us all. It’s a tricky one because you want to get something thoughtful, something you know she’ll love and use, and something she doesn’t already own. Today is your lucky day because I’ve rounded up some great gift options with Roz, and the best part…they are all from local boutiques.

No woman can ever own too many handbags, and the Elaine Turner Nala shoulder bag in buttery soft leather would be the perfect addition to your mother’s collection. If she is a traveler, a travel jewelry box in the hottest new color is the chicest way to transport her gems.

Two accessories that will never go out of style are scarves and sunglasses. Add an oversized wrap to spruce up any look, such as the beautiful multi colored one from a bientot to add color and pattern.  Sunglasses are a key component to any ensemble, and the fact that they are monogrammed makes them far from ordinary, and why wear a designer name when you can wear your own?

Candles complete a room. The smell of one and the flickering of the flame bring a sense of calmness, especially with the ‘Powder Room’ Lafco scent. Along with candles, a Thyme soap set from More Than You Can Imagine is the perfect item to place by any sink in the house.

Jewelry is always a good choice when shopping for mom, especially when it comes from Willow Boutique. An Agate stone necklace is something mom may not buy for herself, but a piece she would wear forever, and a classic gold hammered cuff would go with any outfit in her closet.

Spruce up your mom’s wardrobe with the ideal outfit completer: a blush Elizabeth and James blazer from TOOTSIES that she can wear with any color in her wardrobe.  You can also get her an embroidered Haute Hippie tank that would take her through the warm months ahead in style and again, dress it down with a pair of jeans or dress it up a notch for evening.

If your mom loves coffee table books, head on over to Kuhl-Linscomb and you’ll be sure to find one she’ll adore, such as The Little Black Dress, The Big Book of Chic, or In Vogue. You could also get her an elegant fragrance like Santa Maria Novela – Angels of Florence, which smells divine.

Head into town and shop local this year. Some of our absolute favorite stores around the city have gifts that any mother is sure to love for years and years to come. Happy Mother’s Day to all!

A Season of Prints

Thursday, April 4th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

I love print. I love it more than most. Roz is not the biggest fan of prints as many of you know, so she felt it was the perfect story for me to write for The Chic Sheet.  I, Julie Bortnick of from prosecco to plaid, am a huge cheerleader for printed clothing.  I love solids, as well, but I get extremely excited about incredible prints. Not-So-Mellow Yellow for Spring 2013

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

Taylor Tomasi-Hill, Marie Claire Magazine

Spring’s other Citrus that is literally popping up on the fashion scene as we speak is a color that has always said Easter to me. That color is Yellow, known this season by its Pantone ID of Lemon Zest. The runways were full of this bold hue, which I personally love primarily as a pop color that works off of the season’s biggest neutrals…..navy and grey.

Styling Tip: for me, again, a big wearer of black or white or for this season, black & white….any combination of this would be stunning with just a simple yellow shoe, a yellow bag (not matching, too much!) or maybe even just a touch of yellow at the ear.  A yellow accessory is also a great outfit completer if worn with bold black/white stripes, colorful prints and/or navy dot or star prints.

However, this is Houston, Texas and our women love color. I’ve already seen some of our town’s most beautiful wearing a head-to-toe yellow day dress or evening gown and looking so new, fresh and alive!

The following are some of our favorite ways to wear this vibrant, happy color for Spring. Think lemon drops, sunshine and baby chicks at Easter time and see if this color doesn’t put a smile on your face! Read the rest of this entry »

A Behind-the-Scenes Visit with David Peck and His Spring/Summer Collection…

O.K. I admit it, I am a card-carrying David Peck groupie!  I have followed this local designer whose popularity is growing each season with his CROP Collection definitely becoming a force to be recognized and dealt with nationwide. He added 30 new stores for Spring that translates locally to a mega business at Tootsies, with the addition of Cunningham & Co., Mint Uptown Park and BHLDN.  It’s been amazing to watch as I feel I was there when it all began for him and was thrilled when viewing his collection in NYC during Fashion Week, joined by national publications such as Vanity Fair and Vogue as well as some NYC shop owners as they eagerly reviewed his collection, off-site at the ACE Hotel.  He also made the cover of WWD and Vogue has several garments out now for a possible story. Elaine Turner Powers Up in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month…

Thursday, October 11th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

Our town’s Accessories designer, Elaine Turner is stepping up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month for a cause that is near and dear to her heart. Since Elaine’s own Mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 48, she has made it her cause to ensure that she and all of the women she can influence will take mammograms and become their own advocates for the very important cause of prevention of this disease that affects so many women.

Throughout October, Elaine will donate 100% of the proceeds of her pink wrap bracelets shown here, which she has named the Marlaine in honor of her Mom, to the Nellie B. Connally Breast Cancer Center at MD Anderson. For just $55 retail you can support this worthy cause in style.  In addition, if you show off your bracelet in a Rosie the Riveter pose and upload the image to Elaine’s FB or Instagram with hashtag #PowerUpPink, she will donate an extra $1 to the Nellie Connally Breast Center.  The bracelet is available in Houston at her two stores….Rice Village and CityCentre, specialty stores nationwide and online at www.elaineturner.com. Handbag Chic: Make It ALL Fit!

One thing is for certain, we are all becoming more tech-savvy these days. I mean who doesn’t have an iPhone/Droid or an iPad that goes with them everywhere?  So, the question has become how to be tech-savvy and fashion-savvy at the same time.  Well, the Handbag industry is responding. Our handbags have always been expected to be the carrier of our everyday products…from makeup to now, our tech devices. As a quote from Vogue stated, “It’s tech-meets-fashion-first:  our reliance on an increasingly indispensable piece of hardware is influencing how designers think about the scale and proportions of an accessory we’re calling the iBag.” in their May 2012 issue.
