Spring Trend….Stripes Galore

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

STRIPES:  Walking the line is the way to go this Spring.  Stripes, which are not necessarily the newest idea around, do make perfect sense as an extension of color blocking.  They have also been the pattern of choice for those of us that are not enamored with wearing bold prints and find stripes to be a great fashion choice for the season.  Thick, skinny, vertical, horizontal or a combination of all of the above, STRIPES, particularly in a color favorite of the season, Black & White, are a bold entry into Spring.

There are such variations to consider as there has never been such a selection as there was this season, on all of the runways.  Many fashion folks have been quoted as saying the combination of Bold Stripes with Black & White are the #1 trend from the Spring runways. Designer favorite of this look was Marc Jacobs where it was dominant, however many designers featured striping within their collections.

Choices:  Vertical: always slimming to the body; long lines elongate the figure and follow the vertical curves of the body.

Horizontal:  often shied away from by many as thought of to make the body appear wide, actually if used as a single bold wide stripe or strategically placed wide stripes can actually be slimming. Read the rest of this entry »

Everyone that has followed me at all knows I’m not a big print girl.  Occasionally, I’ll get excited about a great collection of Prints, usually novelty, that I become obsessed with!  Not enough to actually wear them usually, but to follow all season long and now, pin on my Pinterest board, just the same.  Last year it was the fruit prints….Prada’s banana prints that everyone from Anna Wintour to the Red Carpet gals took turns wearing or Stella McCartney and her Citrus prints that appeared in what seemed like orchard quantities in the stores of NYC.  Maybe my obsession is really with food, after all I am Italian, because this year I am crazy for the Dolce & Gabbana Veggie Prints straight from their Mama’s kitchens and all about Italy!

They are just fun…delicious fun! There are the Red Pepper and the Red Tomato prints, and the Eggplant, Red Onion and Zucchini prints, all making bold statements that you have to love. These prints  are available in everything from swim suits, sportswear and dresses, to handbags and scarves.  I even think I would wear them….what would be hauter this season than red pepper printed skinny fancy pants….that’s at least three trends in one garment, right?

Fun handbags and scarfs are also available on Net-a-porter.com.  Dolce & Gabbana are definitely doing prints this season especially made for me…..there is also a peonie print (my second favorite flower next to gardenias)  and a fresh take on animal, both available at www.dolcegabbana.com. Check it out to see it all.

If you enjoy these as much as I do, I recommend that you buy yourself A Piece. They are available for purchase at NeimanMarcus.com and in-store, BergdorfGoodman.com and Net-a-Porter.com.

Enjoy my latest obsessions…….
