Hey, maybe I could be a celebrity if someone would guarantee me that I would have as much fun as I did the night I was so graciously asked to be one of Ten Celebrity Makeup Artists at Neiman Marcus Beauty Week. I had my own personal photographer, no paparazzi to deal with, a talented makeup artist, Sara Murphy, doing all of my hand-work at my chosen counter which happened to be Laura Mercier (we all chose one line to represent), who applied the look I wanted to achieve, Red Lips and Smokey Eyes for me on a professional model. Mine was Kaitlin and not only was this young lady a gorgeous face, she got to wear the most beautiful dress in the show, a RED Tom Ford drop-dead rusched sheer that was off-the-charts. It’s finally happening! Something that I have begged for for years (I’m sure this is not a unique request from me and that many of you have asked for this as well!?) Mini-sized cosmetics are actually being produced for travel in all of the right sizes to get you through security in a breeze. We’ve all begged our sales person at Neiman’s, Saks, Nordstrom maybe, during heavy travel months for small samples of products that we love, particularly in skin care, where the home jar/bottle is just too big to pack! Sometimes they had them but not always and if your trip was on the lengthy side, those samples, which were designed for an application or two had you begging shamelessly for more. Luxury skin care leader, La Prairie, teamed up with makeup artist, Rachel Wade, to launch it’s first color collection, “Bouquet de Jardin,” a bouquet of colour wrapped in luxury.
Inspired by the gorgeous, bold peonies blooming in Brooklyn Botanical Garden, La Prairie Colour Ambassador, Wade, created the perfect canvas of colour for its Summer 2011 collection that launched in May. This first makeup artist created and collaborated colour collection for the luxury Swiss Beauty brand was presented to us recently at a breakfast at Neiman Marcus.
To quote Wade, “My makeup philosophy is about being beautiful, yet polished and feminine. To me, a peony does just that. ”Peonies, a personal favorite of mine, as well as I love it’s beautiful colour and delicacy.” That is what the goal of the collection was. I guess it just felt right that I should be chatting with Lev Glazman, co-founder with his wife Alina Roytberg, on Friday at Neiman Marcus about his very popular and ultra-hip collection of bath and body products, known so appropriately as FRESH. Poppy King is a woman near and dear to my heart. She has always been fascinated with the lips since she was a child in Australia playing with her Moms lipstick and believes that it is lip color that transforms the look of the face.
