Katherine Schwarzenegger to Show Young Girls How to “Rock What You’ve Got” This Saturday, October 15th

The Post Oak Hilton will be THE fun place to be this Saturday, October 15, when Moms and Daughters come together for a great day of shopping, lunching and learning a little bit more about themselves.  Featured guest speaker for the Rockin’ Resiliency Luncheon, being hosted by The Womens Fund, will be Katherine Schwarzenegger, daughter of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Katherine will be here to encourage women and girls to “Rock What They’ve Got”!  Katherine is a very active young woman…student, author and global activist.  She will be speaking candidly about the struggle to develop a healthy body image in today’s body-conscious society and the confidence it takes for young women to celebrate who they really are. Lester Smith + Ellen DeGeneres Dancing for Breast Cancer…Not to Be Missed!

Everyone in Houston knows how passionate philanthropist Lester Smith and his wife, Sue, are about supporting cancer-related causes. Now the nation is about to find out!   Lester has been invited to appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” next week to talk with Ellen about his book “You Gotta Dance Like Nobody’s Watching,” which benefits breast cancer and genomic research. He’ll also tell about his latest big-hearted endeavor, the Pink Well Challenge, a $1 million matching gift to 20 non-profit breast cancer organizations selected from a nationwide call for applications (pinkwell.org).  The combination of Lester Smith and Ellen is sure to be entertaining! The segment is slated to air next Tues., Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. on KPRC-TV 2.

Tom’s Shoes One for One X 2 for Back-to-School…

Everyone knows about TOMS Shoes, its One for One Project and the wonderful work that its founder, Blake Mycoskie has done matching shoe purchases with new shoes for children in developing countries. These represent the best of both worlds….hip styling and comfort for the customer, while providing much needed shoes for barefoot children around the globe!  That’s the good news!

How to Support Houston’s Berry Family

I’m sure you’re all aware of the tragic July 2nd car accident that killed parents Joshua and Robin Berry, and left their three children (all under ten years old) injured.  Brothers Peter (9) and Aaron (8) suffered serious spinal injuries, and sister, Willa (6), suffered minor injuries.  The three children are now under the loving guardianship of their aunt and uncle, Simone and Matthew Berry.  Houstonians, as well as people all over the country, have come together to help these children who are clearly in great need of our support.  If you would like to make a donation in support of the Berry Children, please make a contribution to the Joshua and Robin Berry Children’s Trust by visiting their website at www.theberrychildren.org or www.facebook.com/BerryChildren Your contributions will be greatly appreciated and proceeds “will go to the short-term and long-term medical care, education and overall wellness of the Berry children.” Read the rest of this entry »

Chic Happening: A Night With Our FAVE Local Design Diva

Pastels, watercolors and pure white is the hot color palette Houston’s very own celeb designer, Chloe Dao, will be debuting at this weekend’s Chloe Dao “Lightness” Spring 2010 Fashion Show. The Season 2 Project Runway winner is highlighting her fashions in our city, opening her collection, inspired by her newly found “lightness” spirit and attitude, to her largest audience to date. The American Heart Association and it’s elite group of Young Professionals, appropriately named the Young at Heart, are inviting gals and pals to join the group and help make a difference in the community. This launch party being held on Thursday, August 13, has something for all! For the ladies and the guys, Neiman’s will be previewing their Young Contemporary Fall Fashion Trends on the runway and since this party is being held at the Momentum Audi showroom, there will be plenty of distractions to catch the eyes of the fellas. Chic Happening: Looking to be found by the shopping crowd, THE FIND is your place!

If you’re an up-and-coming designer and you are wanting to show your wares…..or just a shopper looking for a great find, then THE FIND is your place. THE FIND is an emerging designer show, that travels with new and underground designers exposing shoppers to fabulous new, fresh talent whose collections include: jewelry, handbags, shoes and ready-to-wear for public viewing and purchase. A point to consider is that although this is not, technically a charity event, each designer gives a portion of their profit from THE FIND to a charity of their choice.

Houstonian, Chelsea Dreyer, the proprietor and creative guru behind the online retail venture “77th” Street created THE FIND. So, if you fit the designer description mentioned above then you need to contact Chelsea(Chelsea@thefindhouston.com or 713- 213-6997), and make an appointment to have her take a look at your collection and see if you are right for this fun, fashion project. Chic Happening…….Warning, prepare to see RED, lots and lots of RED!

That is exactly what you will see(and hopefully be wearing!) when you walk into the Intercontinental Hotel on Monday, May 4 for the Go Red For Women annual luncheon. This is the cornerstone event for the Go Red For Women movement in which the American Heart Association celebrates the energy,passion and power of women to band together and wipe out heart disease and stroke. With one out of three women still dying from heart disease, the AHA is committed to fighting this No. 1 killer of women, which is largely preventable with information and education to make the right choices in caring for their health.
This event, at the Intercontinental promises to be not only informative but chock-filled with lots of entertainment…….boutique shopping featuring many of our town’s best; Willow, Kelly Anzillotti Handbags, A Little Eye Candy, Wonderbar and many more. Also, a real treat for all, Rita Moreno, keynote speaker, the only female performer to have won all four of the most prestigious show business awards: Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy, will share her passion for educating others as the road to fighting heart disease. All of this will be dressed in a sea of RED…..from the yummy red dress cookie centerpieces to the fabulous RED goodie bags!

Chic Happening…….it’s a Picnic Party for a cause!

Chic Happening………..Picnic in the Park with SEARCH!

It’s Houston, Texas and the Spring nights are the nicest they can ever be……..in fact, the SEARCH folks have even done the research and gotten a weather forecast for Picnic Day of “high 85 and low of 65degrees”, so I say enjoy it while you can! What better way to have a good time than to join SEARCH and 1,000 expected friends and neighbors for a Celebration on the Green……….enjoy sitting on the hill of Discovery Green with the fabulous Houston skyline in the background. There will be great music, good eats and one of those rare fabulous Houston nights under the stars. All of this to celebrate SEARCH, and it’s 20 years of providing hope, creating opportunity and transforming the lives of thousands of Houston’s homeless.
