Easter’s Soft Pales Are a Major Color Trend for Spring 2013…..Will Houston Women Wear It?

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

It is not unusual to see soft pale colorations in fashion as we enter the Pre-Easter time. However, in seasons past that has been for a short window of time as Texas women have proven over the years that they love color and they love it the bolder the better.  So, as I watched the runways unfold for Spring 2013, I watched as many of the biggest designers showed pales……from the softest nudes, blushes and soft pinks to icy blues, mint green, lilac, butter yellow and more, and sat thinking, how would Houston women react to these colors??? Not-So-Mellow Yellow for Spring 2013

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

Spring’s other Citrus that is literally popping up on the fashion scene as we speak is a color that has always said Easter to me. That color is Yellow, known this season by its Pantone ID of Lemon Zest. The runways were full of this bold hue, which I personally love primarily as a pop color that works off of the season’s biggest neutrals…..navy and grey.

Styling Tip: for me, again, a big wearer of black or white or for this season, black & white….any combination of this would be stunning with just a simple yellow shoe, a yellow bag (not matching, too much!) or maybe even just a touch of yellow at the ear.  A yellow accessory is also a great outfit completer if worn with bold black/white stripes, colorful prints and/or navy dot or star prints.

However, this is Houston, Texas and our women love color. I’ve already seen some of our town’s most beautiful wearing a head-to-toe yellow day dress or evening gown and looking so new, fresh and alive!

The following are some of our favorite ways to wear this vibrant, happy color for Spring. Think lemon drops, sunshine and baby chicks at Easter time and see if this color doesn’t put a smile on your face! Read the rest of this entry »

Spring Trend….Stripes Galore

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

STRIPES:  Walking the line is the way to go this Spring.  Stripes, which are not necessarily the newest idea around, do make perfect sense as an extension of color blocking.  They have also been the pattern of choice for those of us that are not enamored with wearing bold prints and find stripes to be a great fashion choice for the season.  Thick, skinny, vertical, horizontal or a combination of all of the above, STRIPES, particularly in a color favorite of the season, Black & White, are a bold entry into Spring.

There are such variations to consider as there has never been such a selection as there was this season, on all of the runways.  Many fashion folks have been quoted as saying the combination of Bold Stripes with Black & White are the #1 trend from the Spring runways. Designer favorite of this look was Marc Jacobs where it was dominant, however many designers featured striping within their collections.

Choices:  Vertical: always slimming to the body; long lines elongate the figure and follow the vertical curves of the body.

Horizontal:  often shied away from by many as thought of to make the body appear wide, actually if used as a single bold wide stripe or strategically placed wide stripes can actually be slimming. Read the rest of this entry »

The Ultimate Gift Guide from Two Unlikely Partners…

Thursday, November 29th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

For the first time in my retail history, a collaboration is taking place that appears on the surface to be very unpredictable, but says a lot about the current American shopping style.  We women are smarter about our shopping and feel it to be very o.k. to dress “High-Low” as the industry calls the now-happening way of dressing….mixing designer pieces with less expensive touches or for some, vice versa. Neiman Marcus Steps It Up a Competitive Notch…Opens Last Call Studio Store

Friday, May 11th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

So, I entered the newest Neiman Marcus venture, their Last Call Studio Store that just opened on Post Oak, in the center that is exactly diagonally across the street from their dynamic Galleria flagship, wondering just what to expect.  Well, my first surprise, walking in on opening morning,  was a warm and happy greeting by the Store Manager, Natalie Shaffer, who had been told to expect me, her boss and her boss’s boss….all (3) former Foley-ites that I knew and loved in the old days of Foley’s Austin and that I was thrilled and surprised to know were running the show for the Last Call Division of Neiman Marcus…that was an added bonus!  Natalie came from our Barton Creek store, Bill Earnhart is Vice President of the Last Call Division, including the outlet and studio stores,(only 5 of this newest concept exist today) and Sherry Ables, the Regional Store Director, East Coast, for these divisions.  It was a great reunion and made for a very personalized touring of the store that opened that morning to 135 people lined up outdoors. The store was definitely all a-buzz with women’s ready-to-wear area appearing to hold most of the excitement. Read the rest of this entry »

CUSP Contemporary Concept Debuts in Neiman Marcus-Houston Galleria Store

Thursday, December 8th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

For those of you that are CUSP followers, such as myself, who because we are not one of the cities that actually has one of Neiman Marcus‘ five free standing CUSP stores, follows it through its  daily email offerings.  So, you will be as excited as I was to find that our Houston Galleria store has converted its Contemporary Departments on level 3 to a CUSP shop-within-a-store concept.

What does this mean to the Contemporary shopper?  All of the same vendors that we have loved up on Three such as Vince, all of the denim peeps, Alice & Olivia, Robert Rodriquez, DVF and some of the newest like Stella McCartney for Adidas and Free Spirit just to name a sampling are still there.  The real news and bonus is the addition of  Contemporary Accessories, Handbags and Shoes at very affordable prices that come just in time for some great holiday gift-giving.

I just happened upon this new concept while visiting the store and was delighted to spread the word.  Stop in and see and purchase for yourself and any CYT’s that are on your Holiday Gift List.  Don’t know about CUSP?  click on
