Black assymetical slit-neck Jersey gown

Houston was very fortunate to be part of a nationwide search that Donna Karan’s team conducted, looking for women that gave much back to their community and also possess an added bonus of a great sense of style.  Houston is lucky to have not just one special lady in this style-exclusive group, but two:  Sheridan Williams and Dancie Ware.  On Wednesday, November 28, several women were treated to view a special invite-only showing, by these Ambassadors, of Donna’s newest Resort 2013 collectionSaks, General Manager, Terry Zmyslo teamed up with DK’s Director of Retail Stylists, Curtis Farnham and a small collection of models to treat us all to a first-hand look at her newest collection. The added touch of good will, was that Saks, not only brought much of the collection to Hotel ZaZa to peruse but any of this collection purchased over the 3-day Houston stay benefited our very own MD Anderson…..so it was a win-win for all and such a fun way to leisurely sip on sparkle and have a delightful lunch with friends.

Red one shoulder layered dress

About the Collection: To those of us that are long-time followers, it was all “so Donna”.  A color palate built on solids, prints from Donna are virtually non-existent.  Fabrics were familiar…essential matte jersey, soft knits with some crinkle fabrications.  Styling reflected many of her signature looks….always playing on her strength, with emphasis on shoulders and décolletage, Donna can fit a woman’s body like no other.  The end result is high-styled sexiness that is fit to perfection to flatter the woman.  Signature looks such as lots of rusching, cold shoulder, asymmetrical necklines were all present in this very-Donna collection.  The color palette was made of black, slate and as always in her collections, pops of bold Red.  One of my favorites that I still own in my DK archives is her touches of the color, Blush….this time done in an all over rusched day dress worn by popular Houston model, Yuan Yuan and featured above…..to me the color blush is synonymous with Donna Karan.

The Stylistas in the crowd were too many to mention:  (some are shown below) but it can be assured that many, including myself were shopping for that perfect item after the show, although all sales for the weekend went toward the MDA fund.  Let’s hope that this fun, fashion event brought in lots of money for MD Anderson and returns the Donna Karan team  to NYC with much enthusiasm exhibited by this chic Houston group, brought together by Sheridan and Dancie!  Thank you ladies. 2012 HCAF, a Tribute to Two of My Favorite Topics…the Power of Women in the Arts & Fashion!

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012 by maeganRoosa

Houston’s Cinema Arts Festival continues to impress me more and more each year with its’ quality of films. Oddly enough, I am highly anticipating the Festival’s final night for Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel. First of all, Diana Vreeland, the “Empress of Fashion” as she has been called, was the former fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar for 25 years, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue and established the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. She has been a true idol of mine for many years. In fact, I had a picture of her hanging in my office when I was a fashion director! I also think that with Fashion Houston beginning on Monday, November 12, showing this film Sunday evening is the appropriate kick-off to Houston’s important week of design and style.

52 Hours in Austin, In Chic Sheet Style…Sorry NYT’s 36 Just Not Enough!

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

Question: What have I been longing for? Answer: A visit to my favorite Texas town that didn’t involve a wedding, conference or another event weekend that, while they are always fun, is definitely packed with an agenda that is not my own.

So when an opportunity came my way that would take me to Capital-town and allow me to make my own agenda….shopping and eating at some of Austin’s hippest! I couldn’t resist and hitched a ride with my better-half who had some bus. in the city and allowed me to be free to shop till I dropped……easy Austin-style!

I’m recapping some of my highlights from my days there, in hopes that you too can experience some free days in this great city to follow my path.  I’d like to go back and do the same trip for art and music but couldn’t get it in this time. Read the rest of this entry »

Chatting with Lauren Bush-Lauren on Unlikeliness of FEED Bag & Judith Leiber Collaboration….Or is It?!

Thursday, December 8th, 2011 by Roz Pactor

Lauren Bush (left) & Mary Gleeson, president of Judith Leiber with Lauren (right)

What brought recently wed, Lauren Bush-Lauren home to Houston?  She was here, along with Judith Leiber Brand President, Mary Gleason to share with Neiman Marcus customers her newest FEED Bag collaboration with the iconic handbag line.  Quite an odd pairing I thought, and asked the ladies together how it all came to be?  Mary mentioned that Lauren, who along with her hubby David Lauren, son of Fashion Mogul, Ralph Lauren, were often seen out in New York City’s social scene.  Lauren, smart businesswoman and promoter of her brand, consistently arrived at Galas, wearing stunning evening gowns and carrying one of her many large FEED Bags on her arm.  Well, the Leiber folks noticed this and put their best creative team together to find just the right way to blend Leiber bags, the end-all of evening handbags, with the FEED Bag.
