Elaine Turner Launches Newest Summer Collection, Seychelles, Tonight with The Chic Sheet

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

How lucky are we that TODAY we get to see online and TONIGHT live in her Rice Village Store on University Blvd., Elaine’s  newest collection for Summer 2013 destination: Seychelles and it is so exciting.

Elaine’s inspiration comes from her visit to this breathtaking island located in Africa in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar and Kenya.  Known for its beauty and romanticism, these ideas dominate the collection.  Summer is all about escaping to the beach, which by the way is a favorite pastime of Elaine’s and Seychelles boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

Some of the quotes from Elaine were, “After the intensity of color and experience traveling through Africa, I wanted to end on an airy, ethereal note…” Two of my favorite takeaways from seeing this broad collection is her use of color and shapes that were modern but romantic.  I also loved the way she combined the unpredictable in both colors and materials.  Python, an always staple at Elaine Turner was lightened up here with hints of colors such as pink and mint.  To add even more interest to this treatment, materials such as raffia and the emergence of cork add newness and originality to many of the pieces.  You must take a look, because you are definitely in for a treat.

The following are some of the highlights of the collection….come tonight and see many more. Read the rest of this entry »

Have Fun with Mother’s Day Shopping

Monday, May 6th, 2013 by Roz

By: Julie Bortnick, of the fashion and lifestyle blog from prosecco to plaid

Mother’s Day is upon us, and the inevitable question of what to get mom surrounds us all. It’s a tricky one because you want to get something thoughtful, something you know she’ll love and use, and something she doesn’t already own. Today is your lucky day because I’ve rounded up some great gift options with Roz, and the best part…they are all from local boutiques.

No woman can ever own too many handbags, and the Elaine Turner Nala shoulder bag in buttery soft leather would be the perfect addition to your mother’s collection. If she is a traveler, a travel jewelry box in the hottest new color is the chicest way to transport her gems.

Two accessories that will never go out of style are scarves and sunglasses. Add an oversized wrap to spruce up any look, such as the beautiful multi colored one from a bientot to add color and pattern.  Sunglasses are a key component to any ensemble, and the fact that they are monogrammed makes them far from ordinary, and why wear a designer name when you can wear your own?

Candles complete a room. The smell of one and the flickering of the flame bring a sense of calmness, especially with the ‘Powder Room’ Lafco scent. Along with candles, a Thyme soap set from More Than You Can Imagine is the perfect item to place by any sink in the house.

Jewelry is always a good choice when shopping for mom, especially when it comes from Willow Boutique. An Agate stone necklace is something mom may not buy for herself, but a piece she would wear forever, and a classic gold hammered cuff would go with any outfit in her closet.

Spruce up your mom’s wardrobe with the ideal outfit completer: a blush Elizabeth and James blazer from TOOTSIES that she can wear with any color in her wardrobe.  You can also get her an embroidered Haute Hippie tank that would take her through the warm months ahead in style and again, dress it down with a pair of jeans or dress it up a notch for evening.

If your mom loves coffee table books, head on over to Kuhl-Linscomb and you’ll be sure to find one she’ll adore, such as The Little Black Dress, The Big Book of Chic, or In Vogue. You could also get her an elegant fragrance like Santa Maria Novela – Angels of Florence, which smells divine.

Head into town and shop local this year. Some of our absolute favorite stores around the city have gifts that any mother is sure to love for years and years to come. Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Spring Trend….Stripes Galore

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 by Roz Pactor

STRIPES:  Walking the line is the way to go this Spring.  Stripes, which are not necessarily the newest idea around, do make perfect sense as an extension of color blocking.  They have also been the pattern of choice for those of us that are not enamored with wearing bold prints and find stripes to be a great fashion choice for the season.  Thick, skinny, vertical, horizontal or a combination of all of the above, STRIPES, particularly in a color favorite of the season, Black & White, are a bold entry into Spring.

There are such variations to consider as there has never been such a selection as there was this season, on all of the runways.  Many fashion folks have been quoted as saying the combination of Bold Stripes with Black & White are the #1 trend from the Spring runways. Designer favorite of this look was Marc Jacobs where it was dominant, however many designers featured striping within their collections.

Choices:  Vertical: always slimming to the body; long lines elongate the figure and follow the vertical curves of the body.

Horizontal:  often shied away from by many as thought of to make the body appear wide, actually if used as a single bold wide stripe or strategically placed wide stripes can actually be slimming. Read the rest of this entry »

Donna Karan’s Houston Ambassadors Join with Saks and DK to present Resort 2013 Collection to Invitation-only audience luncheon….Style is on the Menu!

Black assymetical slit-neck Jersey gown

Houston was very fortunate to be part of a nationwide search that Donna Karan’s team conducted, looking for women that gave much back to their community and also possess an added bonus of a great sense of style.  Houston is lucky to have not just one special lady in this style-exclusive group, but two:  Sheridan Williams and Dancie Ware.  On Wednesday, November 28, several women were treated to view a special invite-only showing, by these Ambassadors, of Donna’s newest Resort 2013 collectionSaks, General Manager, Terry Zmyslo teamed up with DK’s Director of Retail Stylists, Curtis Farnham and a small collection of models to treat us all to a first-hand look at her newest collection. The added touch of good will, was that Saks, not only brought much of the collection to Hotel ZaZa to peruse but any of this collection purchased over the 3-day Houston stay benefited our very own MD Anderson…..so it was a win-win for all and such a fun way to leisurely sip on sparkle and have a delightful lunch with friends.

Red one shoulder layered dress

About the Collection: To those of us that are long-time followers, it was all “so Donna”.  A color palate built on solids, prints from Donna are virtually non-existent.  Fabrics were familiar…essential matte jersey, soft knits with some crinkle fabrications.  Styling reflected many of her signature looks….always playing on her strength, with emphasis on shoulders and décolletage, Donna can fit a woman’s body like no other.  The end result is high-styled sexiness that is fit to perfection to flatter the woman.  Signature looks such as lots of rusching, cold shoulder, asymmetrical necklines were all present in this very-Donna collection.  The color palette was made of black, slate and as always in her collections, pops of bold Red.  One of my favorites that I still own in my DK archives is her touches of the color, Blush….this time done in an all over rusched day dress worn by popular Houston model, Yuan Yuan and featured above…..to me the color blush is synonymous with Donna Karan.

The Stylistas in the crowd were too many to mention:  (some are shown below) but it can be assured that many, including myself were shopping for that perfect item after the show, although all sales for the weekend went toward the MDA fund.  Let’s hope that this fun, fashion event brought in lots of money for MD Anderson and returns the Donna Karan team  to NYC with much enthusiasm exhibited by this chic Houston group, brought together by Sheridan and Dancie!  Thank you ladies. The Ultimate Gift Guide from Two Unlikely Partners…

Thursday, November 29th, 2012 by Roz Pactor

For the first time in my retail history, a collaboration is taking place that appears on the surface to be very unpredictable, but says a lot about the current American shopping style.  We women are smarter about our shopping and feel it to be very o.k. to dress “High-Low” as the industry calls the now-happening way of dressing….mixing designer pieces with less expensive touches or for some, vice versa. Macy’s Holiday Fashion Show at Nutcracker, Focused on Tinseltown Theme, Kicks off with Charlie Chaplin…

As someone who looks at the Nutcracker Market as the official kick-off of Holiday shopping that gets the spirit of the season going, I must admit I am always a little excited for Nutcracker to happen.  After all, I am one of the Donne Di Domani gals, who once again sold out of our famous Italian Marinara Sauce, which takes a lot of hard work.  So that made the chance to leave the hustle and bustle of downstairs for the fun and excitement of the upstairs Macy’s Holiday Brunch an extra treat for me.  Treat it was, as Lenny and Tamara and the Macy’s team did not disappoint with exciting merchandise, a fun theme and as always a few surprises thrown in.
