Thursday, April 11th, 2013 by Roz PactorIf there weren’t enough restaurant happenings on the Upper Kirby scene for you, we have another to add to the list that is a little bit familiar in name but has a different vibe than how we’ve known it. This exciting new eatery dishing up creative twists on American comfort classics is Del Frisco’s Grille and it opened with a bang on March 16th. It was a great party night but also for us, it was a great night of meeting the peeps behind the scene that will be the mainstay of this well-established eatery with a new twist. We enjoyed meeting Executive Chef Jeff Taylor and Manager Scott Sieck who graciously assured us that they will be there to make sure it all runs to perfection. Read the rest of this entry »

How Do Three Italian Boys Celebrate Their Restaurant’s 30th Anniversary…..By Saying Grazie and Giving Back to Their Customers
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 by Roz PactorAnyone who follows me knows that Fashion is more my expertise, and that a food critic I am not, nor do I pretend to be. Although, eating and being a foodie is also my passion. So, I do love fashion but I must say that Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Thom Browne ensemble or Jason Wu dress did not put nearly the smile on my face that writing this post has done for me. I am sitting here happily now as I think about Damian’s and my three cousins, Frankie B. Mandola, Bubba Butera and Johnny Mandola (Frankie’s son), its proprietors, as two of these guys have made me laugh and shared my love of food and family my entire life. It’s the Italian way and I love them for it! Read the rest of this entry »

Tony’s Presents Icons of Italian Wines at Special Wine Event Not to Be Missed…
Friday, July 13th, 2012 by Roz Pactor
If you are a collector of fine, rare wines or a student of wine, whose mission it is to learn from the experts about the richness and quality of special wines, you are in for a treat, like no other, by attending this unique wine and dining event at Tony’s, hosted by Tony Vallone with co-presenter, Jeremy Parzen, a wine writer and Italian food and wine historian. It’s all happening at Tony’s on Thursday evening, July 19th.
The presentation by these gentlemen promises to be both interesting and highly informative. However, the “stars” of the evening are a selection of Italian Wines from deep within Tony’s own wine cellar to be shared for this evening alone. These wines are from three iconic masters from the key wine producing regions of Italy….Piedmont, Veneto and Tuscany. Read the rest of this entry »

Who’s the Boss?? Johnny Carrabba, of Course, but Daughter Mia, was the Inspiration for His MIA’S TABLE…
Wednesday, June 27th, 2012 by Roz PactorI’ve made no secret that Johnny Carrabba is one of mi familia that has always made me proud of his success at making the Original Carrabba’s one of my favorite Italian food hang-outs. Their yummy food is reminiscent to me of much of what I grew up eating and is my regular go-to place for those special items that are a mainstay in any Italian home. So when Johnny told me about his first step-out from only Italian fare, as the beginning of his very aggressive expansion plan for the Carrabba namesake, I couldn’t wait to try it and brought my family along to test it out! Underbelly Restaurant, the Story of Houston Food as Told by Chef Chris Shepherd!
Tuesday, March 27th, 2012 by Roz PactorWhen I visited Underbelly, Chris Shepherd’s newest and first of his own, eateries last week, I had to be very persuasive to get in and was told since they were so packed that we would have to sit at a front community table, but was assured by the very nice, accommodating maitre’ de, James, that it would be a fun experience because we could be right up there at the open kitchen and could really watch Chris work. Well, it was a great experience. We sat between some fun people, the energy was contagious throughout, especially in the main dining room that was both spacious and homey.
