When I went to visit Marie Bruns, this summer, I was taken first by her glorious big old house in Montrose that was chocked full of so many architectural and interior design elements that I immediately knew, as I was being ushered back to her guest house/studio, that this was a woman whose jewelry I was going to cherish, as I had already been taken in by her surroundings.
That was in fact the case. I was overwhelmed first of all by the sheer quantity of jewelry, all hand-made by Marie, and as we sat and chatted and she talked about being a Mom, and a working Mom with a big position in the corporate world, I had to inquire, how does she make all of this happen…the answer had a familiar ring…it was in the evenings or anytime she could!
Born in Australia in a household that was filled with style, as her Mother and Grandmother were seamstresses of fine gowns and wedding gowns, she began her passion for jewelry at a very young age. She loved collecting antiques and had a great appreciation for gemstones since a young girl of 10. It was after her graduation from college and her traveling the flea markets of the world that she cultivated what would become her designs, and by 1998 was creating jewelry for herself that many of her friends and followers just had to have, and so by 2002, her first jewelry line was established with a Houston girlfriend and sold to Saks among other clients. It then happened that she met her future hubby, had a beautiful child and went on what I would call a “mommy hiatus” where her focus shifted for awhile.
Fast forward to 2009 when Marie took a sabbatical from her full-time VP of Finance/CFO and went back for a Masters and took on as a class assignment, a business plan for a jewelry line, that the Marie Bruns jewelry line was born. The collection is comprised of high quality, well-crafted by hand and at affordable prices. Marie, a fan of layering, loves to create “jewelry wardrobes” that can play together or stand alone. She creates for women like herself that are multi-taskers whose lives are filled with career, family and other interests.
Hautest New Jewelry Trend: The Chunky Necklace
Because of her love of stones and an endearment to pearls, her collection reflects the ultimate in great color with lots of touches of femininity driven by her use of pearls….her technique of mixing it all up and layering all of this makes for a beautiful addition to any woman’s wardrobe.
Fall’s Newest Styles
Her collection today is found in most national press and her website is a key stop for anyone interested in reviewing and purchasing her items. As the images below will illustrate, and I must say they are only a slight sampling of, she is right on trend in all that she produces. The chunky necklace trend is dominant, a new even more affordable collection is debuting this Fall. Due to her very personal reasons for caring, she has developed a “Breast Cancer Awareness” collection not only for October, Breast Cancer Month, but year-round where she donates 50% of her sales to the Willowbrook Hospital and works with the Methodist Breast Cancer Clinic. If you want to touch and feel items from this Jewelry Designer, voted one of Texas’ Top Designers, they can be found at Mint Uptown Park as well as online at www.mariebruns.com.
