It’s that time of year again, to put on your freshest white threads and head over to the Heights for the 6th Annual White Linen Nights Event this Saturday, August 4th. The event, which goes on during the day from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m., really comes to life and begins to rock at 6:00 p.m. and continues till 10:00 p.m. The theme this year is to promote local faces, local flavor and local fun.
Always a 19th Street event, it’s expanding its boundaries to include a second hub on White Oak Drive.
Our plan is to begin on White Oak with dinner at cousin Nash D’amico’s Italian Market Café, whose patio also happens to be one of the featured spots of the evening. Fresh Arts is hosting an “Arts Pavilion” in the White Oak Parking Pavilion @ 2904 W.O. and local artist, Kristine Mills will be performing at the Pavilion from 6:00-6:45.
On to 19th Street and the Fiesta Stage, where 226 Recording Studio will be featuring Runaway Sun at 8:30 as the headliner, but will be including several other local bands throughout the evening.
For the 19th Street Fashionistas, Bombay Sapphire will be sponsoring fashion shows, hosted by Channel 13’s Sonia Azad, highlighting the hautest fashions from Jubilee, Replay on 19th, Langford Market, plus more.
1st Saturday Art Market will be on the street for the first time, with two outposts…one in front of Heights Tower and the other at 19th & Yale. Must see is the Edgar Medina Pop-up gallery at Langford Market and John Palmer Art on Heights Blvd.
INTRODUCING: GARDNER LANDRY
An added treat to the White Linen Nights evening will be the guest appearance of Houston Resort Menswear Designer, Gardner Landry at Koelsh Gallery at 703 Yale St. from 6:00 till 10:00. He will be showcasing his 2013 Spring line of his iconic Sessanta Linen Camp Shirts, each sporting its own one-of-a-kind vibrant hand-dyed pocket.
Special Fashion Note: Gardner, who developed his shirt from his grandfather’s wardrobe…a classic camp shirt from Dolce Vita-era Italy, is taking this idea further as he prepares to launch a complete line of warm-weather and resort wear. After the debut of a complete men’s line, he will follow with an equally compelling and dazzling women’s line to complement the men’s brand. Stay tuned to The Chic Sheet for more on this later.
For more details of this very cool and special event, visit their site at www.whitelinennightsintheheights.com, including just where are we going to park?! Culture Map’s parking tip was the Chase Bank at 20th Street and Lawrence St. and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (for $10) or along Heights Boulevard.
See you there….it’s my maiden voyage to this event. I finally get to go!
