Spotlight on Fashion in Houston…Fashion Houston, October 10-13

Fashion Alert: It’s less than a week away until the Wortham Center Grand Foyer will be set, catwalk style, and ready to go for all of the Fashion Crowd in Houston to cheer on the top notch designers from H-town and beyond for the Second Annual Fashion Houston. This celebration of runways, pop-up shops and plenty of time for partying, will be available for four nights (Oct. 10-13). Reinforcing the creations of the many talented designers, will also be the talented behind-the-scene team of hairstylists (Ceron) and make-up artists (Laura Mercier), completing each first rate night of style events.

Below is a listing, by evening, of all of the talented headliners whose latest creations will be showcased down the runways.  All runway shows are in the Grand Foyer and pop-up shops will be open to view before the shows begin at 6:00 p.m. in the adjacent Audi Pavilion. Tickets are required for all activities.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 10

Jerri Moore 8:00 pm, Barbara Tfank 8:30 pm, Project 360 9:15 pm, Douglas Hannant 9:45 pm

Jerri Moore, native Houstonian is best known for her glam evening wear. Barbara Tfank’s long illustrious career began as a celebrity stylist, has spanned decades and is now creating designs for the likes of Michelle Obama. Project 360, a globally connected brand whose philosophy is to use its products to garner goodwill and partner with charities worldwide, has been developed and will be presented by Patrick Schwarzenegger, Nick Sheinberg and Kimberly Barth. Lastly, for the evening is classic and internationally known designer, Douglas Hannant.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11

Aries Milan 8:00 pm, Cesar Galindo 8:30 pm, Saks Fifth Avenue Men's Launch 9:15 pm, Carmen Marc Valvo 9:30 pm

Local boutique owner of Coquette, Aries Milan has teamed up with sister August and famed local designer, Toni Whitaker and jeweler Lauren Craft to create Kate Kills by A.M., named after fashion icon, Kate Moss. Houston native Cesar Galindo will be showing twice, this evening will highlight Czar, his namesake label. Saks Men’s will be showing their best of Fall and debuting at Fashion Houston their new private label collection for men. The evening’s closer, internationally known Carmen Marc Valvo, whose evening gowns have graced many a Houston Gala is a friend to us all and will be showcasing many of his sumptuous designs as a beautiful ending to the evening.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12

Chloe Dao 8:00 pm, Camille Franks 8:30 pm, Fabiola Arias 9:15 pm, Norman Ambrose 9:45 pm

Opening the evening is Houston’s Fashion pride and joy, Chloe Dao, Project Runway 2 winner and proprietor of one of the city’s hottest boutiques, Lot 8, among her many ventures. Accessorizing Chloe’s apparel is another pride of our town, Elaine Turner, Accessory designer extraordinaire, whose business, though begun in Houston has spread nationally to many of Americas top stores and boutiques.  Australian designer, Camilla Franks will be bringing her namesake collection of colorfully printed easy dressing (she started with caftans) to the Houston runways.  Fabiola Arias proves that you can make it at a very early age, she is merely 26. Her cocktail and evening wear can be found in many major stores and boutiques around the country.  Closing for this evening will be Norman Ambrose, known for his attention to detail and modern dressing, he dresses many of the most powerful and fashionable women around.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13

Cesar Galindo 8:00 pm, Bibhu Mohapatra 8:30 pm, Robert Rodiguez 9:15 pm, Becca Cason Thrash 9:45 pm

Opening for the evening is an encore presentation by Houston native, Cesar Galindo who will be back debuting his Rojo Collection, which he designed exclusively for Houston’s World Aids Day, December 1. Red could not be hotter this season and I am personally excited about catching first glimpse of this colorful statement by Cesar! Bibhu Mohapatra, Indian-born and American F.I.T. educated will be showing his collection of evening frocks and furs. Closing the designer part of the show will be top contemporary designer, Robert Rodriguez, another F.I.T. graduate and a personal favorite of mine, whose career and collections I have followed, loved and watched evolve.

Lastly, the week comes to a close with a tribute to Houston’s own Style Icon, Becca Cason Thrash, whose personal collection of haute couture will be paraded down the runway. Becca’s due recognition will be a perfect ending to four fabulous nights of fashion!  Enjoy it all, Houston!
